Enshrouded Alchemist NPC Guide: Balthazar Ancient Vault Location, Quests Walkthrough, Crafting Recipes, Lady LeClair, & More

You'll need more than steel and courage to restore peace to Embervale. You'll need plenty of help from some NPC pals, and the Alchemist is one friend who can make your Enshrouded adventure much easier. Here, we'll tell you exactly where to find the Alchemist, his assistant, the quests he unlocks, crafting recipes, and more. Let's get brewing!
So, to find the Alchemist in Enshrouded, also known as Balthazar, you'll need to complete the Ancient Spires quest. You'll receive this quest from the Blacksmith NPC. Completing it will let you access the Powerful Alchemy quest by interacting with your Flame Altar. This quest will then mark your map with the Alchemist's location, and you're good to go!
Head to the Ancient Vault - Alchemist, west of the Springlands Spire. Just outside the vault is a Scavenger camp. Clear it out so you can access the vault, and then head inside. Once you've entered the vault, you'll need to fight your way through even more Scavengers. Your goal is to reach the back chambers on the vault's second floor.
Eventually, you'll come across a large glowing pod, much like the one you freed the Blacksmith from. Interact with it, and good old Balthazar is saved! Head back to your base, and you can now summon the Alchemist with your Summoning Staff.
Unlike the Blacksmith and Blacksmith Assistant, you won't find the Alchemist's Assistant as a result of the Alchemist's quests. Perhaps they aren't that close? Instead, you'll need to complete a quest called Dark Rites. You'll unlock this quest by first completing Ramone's Writing and reading a note titled A Small Thank You, which is part of that quest.
As for the Dark Rites quest, it will instruct you to find and enter a Hidden Attic at Pikemead's Reach in the Imperial Gardens. The house you're looking for will be opposite a skeleton sitting beside a barrel. Head into the house, up into the attic, and interact with the journal notes left behind.
Next, you're off to Glenwood's End. This is located near Revelwood to the north. Your goal is to enter Lady LeClair's house on the outskirts of town. If you find the local dump, the house is right next door. Clear out any foes you might find inside, such as the ever-present Scavengers, and head upstairs. There may also be some spiders to get rid of. Interact with the book upstairs to learn about the house's secret basement. Head back down and interact with the fireplace, and you'll expose a secret staircase.
Finally, here in the basement, you can find Lady LeClair's soul. Collect it, and you can summon her at your base as the Alchemist Assistant! She can craft everything Alchemist Balthazar can, so you now have two Alchemists to set up wherever and however you like!
To unlock the Alchemists' full potential, you'll have to do them some favors first. These quests let you earn new crafting recipes, including recipes you can use on your own, and, as mentioned above, help save additional NPCs too. Here's the full list of Alchemist quests you can complete once recruited:
With the Alchemist at your base, you can craft a variety of potent potions. Of course, like other crafting NPCs such as the Farmer, you'll need to ensure you have the proper workstations and tools for your Alchemist to work with. This also applies the same way for the Alchemist Assistant, Lady LeClair.
By default, the Alchemists will give you access to a variety of crafting recipes. However, unless you build them a shelter, they won't craft more advanced works. Additionally, they'll need specific workstations if you want to unlock everything they can do.
Here, we've listed the full list of resources the Alchemists can craft and the workstations you need for each one. Luckily, you'll find that the additional stations your Alchemist needs to unlock new recipes can all be made simply by sheltering your alchemical friends.
Alchemist Location in Enshrouded (Balthazar)
