Now, Mutated Eggs exist in Palworld, which represent the pinnacle of endgame breeding. But how does this mechanic work? This guide breaks down what you need to know, from its basics to efficient Mutated Egg farming strategies to start building your army of altered champions.

How Do Mutated Eggs Work in Palworld?

If successful, the resulting egg has a distinct purple glow. It’s important to note that Pals with mutation normally don’t have better stats than their standard counterparts. Instead, the transformation appears in the skills, as a Mutated Pal receives one of five new passive skills that’s unattainable through any other means. The resulting altered Pal also has a chance to emerge as an Alpha variant. However, numerous community tests put the base chance of producing Mutated Eggs at somewhere between 0.7% and 1% per egg with a standard cake. Using the new Extravagant Vegetable Cake in the Breeding Farm raises the chances to about 3%. So, even if you’re using the better breeding item, it may still take a while before a Mutated Egg appears.

Breeding Mutated Eggs in Palworld: Cakes & Passive Skills

Breeding Mutated Eggs in Palworld is no different than the normal procedure of producing Pal eggs. That means the basic requirements to start making your altered Pal army are a Breeding Farm, two compatible Pals, a Cake, and an Incubator. Nonetheless, the release of Version 1.0 also introduced new cakes that enhance the breeding mechanic to the next level. Each cake serves a different purpose, but all options have a chance to produce Mutated Eggs.

Four New Cakes in Palworld 1.0

• Mushroom Cake: Increases the chance of breeding Pals with higher IVs. It requires 5x Flour, 5x Mushroom, 3x Cavern Mushroom, 3x Egg, and 2x Honey to craft.
• Extravagant Vegetable Cake: Increases the chances of a Mutated Egg to appear. It requires 12x Flour, 8x Cotton Candy, 10x Potato, 6x Onion, and 8x Carrot to craft.
• Vegetable Cake: Allows the Breeding Farm to produce two eggs from one cycle (which can also mean doubling mutation opportunities). It requires 8x Flour, 8x Tomato, 7x Lettuce, 8x Egg, and 4x Honey to craft.
• Special Cake: Improves the inheritance of multiple passive skills from parents. It requires 20x Flour, 8x Caramel Cotton Candy, 15x Milk, 15x Egg, and 2x Mammorest Meat to craft.

Although placing a Vegetable Cake in the Breeding Farm allows Pals to produce two eggs at once, the Extravagant Vegetable Cake still seems to be the better option for increasing opportunities for hatching Mutated Eggs in Palworld. While the Vegetable Cake helps generate two offspring, each egg still has that 0.7% to 1% chance of mutation. On the other hand, the Extravagant Vegetable Cake boosts that rate to approximately 3%, making it the superior option for dedicated mutation hunting.

Mutated Egg Passive Skills

As of the launch of Palworld 1.0, five exclusive passive skills can appear on a Pal that hatched from a Mutated Egg, which are the following:

• Babysitter: +30% egg production speed and +30% incubation speed for a Pal assigned to a Breeding Farm.
• Idiosyncratic: +50% player and Pal auto health regeneration, +25% Defense, and immunity to Poison and Burn status effects.
• Immortality: 5% Life Steal, +100% Pal auto health regeneration, and +15% Attack.
• Heavily Armored: Complete immunity to explosion damage.
• Skymarcher: Adds two extra jumps while riding a mountable Pal.

Getting Babysitter early can help improve future breeding operations. On the other hand, a Pal with Immortality, Idiosyncratic, or Heavily Armored make it a great choice for combat. Skymarcher is often seen as a niche choice, as the additional jumps is arguably more advantageous to exploration than for other purposes. Fortunately, it’s possible for mutated Pal parents to pass down their altered passive skills to their offspring. So, acquiring one or two mutated Pals is generally the most challenging part of this process.

How to Farm Mutated Eggs in Palworld Efficiently

Farming for Mutated Eggs in Palworld is a numbers game as opposed to a strategic process. Therefore, the most reliable way to raise the chances of a Mutated Egg to appear is by running several Breeding Farms simultaneously. Also, use the Ancient Hatchery, a Level 76 Technology, as it automates egg production and incubation. While this structure doesn’t increase the mutation rate itself, it significantly accelerates the number of eggs you can process. Doing so should give you more chances at a Mutated Egg in less time than using one Breeding Farm and one Incubator. Another way to increase breeding efficiency is to have Grintale in your party when picking up eggs from the Breeding Farm. Note that this Partner Skill doesn’t work when acquiring a hatched egg from an incubator or the Ancient Hatchery. Finally, remember that mutations are heavily reliant on RNG, which means there’s no guaranteed method to produce one. Each breeding operation is another opportunity, making persistence the key to successful mutation hunting.
