Some items in Terraria can only be farmed after a particular event occurs. One notable example is the Meteorite in Terraria, where you must wait for a meteorite crash to farm the item. So, keep reading, and we’ll guide you through the conditions to summon a meteorite in Terraria so you can mine its valuable ore.

Meteorite Spawning Requirements in Terraria

Terraria Meteorite First, the Meteorite mini-biome must occur before you can harvest the Meteorite ore. A meteorite must fall to create this mini-biome. You’ll know when this event occurs when the text, “A meteorite has landed!” appears on the lower-left side of the screen. As of version 1.4.0.1 (also called the Journey’s End update), if you’re at the surface layer, you’ll see a meteor-falling animation in the background before the on-screen message appears. The meteorite will always fall off-screen. Also, it’ll be at a random location in the surface layer. But before the meteorite in Terraria can fall, certain conditions must be in effect. These requirements are the following:
  • Destroy at least one Crimson Heart or Shadow Orb
  • The Brain of Cthulhu or Eater of Worlds must be defeated at least once
  • The current in-game time must be 12 AM to 4:30 AM
Although the meteorite will land at a random location, it won’t crash onto a specific place if:
  • The current world exceeded the number of meteorites that can spawn
  • NPCs or Chests are nearby
  • The player is on-screen
  • The location is a ledge or near one
  • The potential crash site is 50 tiles from the top of the world
  • It’s in the Dungeon or Jungle Temple
Some likely places wherein the meteorite in Terraria may strike include the Jungle, Ocean, and some sky bridges.

Getting Meteorite (Ore)

Terraria Getting Meteorite Upon finding the Meteorite mini-biome, use your pickaxe to mine the Meteorite ore from the crash site. Note that you can only mine the ore with a pickaxe with at least 50% pickaxe power, such as the Tungsten Pickaxe. Additionally, enemies called Meteor Heads will try and hinder your mining operation. However, killing these enemies gives a slight chance of dropping Meteorite ores. Contact with Meteorite blocks also inflicts the Burning debuff. Prevent this debuff by consuming an Obsidian Skin Potion or wearing the Obsidian Skull accessory. Other items that can prevent the Burning debuff are the following:
  • Ankh Shield
  • Hellfire Treads
  • Lava Waders
  • Magma Skull
  • Molten Charm
  • Molten Skull Rose
  • Obsidian Horseshoe
  • Obsidian Shield
  • Obsidian Skull Rose
  • Obsidian Water Walking Boots
  • Terraspark Boots
Note: The Meteorite mini-biome will disappear entirely if less than 75 Meteorite blocks remain.
