If you thought the Rex or Brontosaurus were enormous dinosaurs in ARK, wait until you see the Titanosaur. Despite its rarity, it’s almost impossible to miss because of this dinosaur’s vast size. But tame one, and you have a mobile fortress that can easily demolish enemy bases. So, here’s our overview of the ARK: Survival Evolved Titanosaur species, how to tame it, and everything you need to know about the massive dino.

What is the Titanosaur in ARK: Survival Evolved?

Generally, the Titanosaur in ARK: Survival Evolved is a peace-loving creature until provoked. But it’s unlikely for this dinosaur to start an attack even when you approach it while riding a tamed mount. The Titanosaur is also fairly hard to miss, considering its gigantic dimensions. You can find it roaming in different ARKs, namely The Island, Scorched Earth, Ragnarok, Crystal Isles, and Lost Island. Nonetheless, it’s a rare creature and may take a while before it spawns in those maps. But once attacked, it bows to no one. Bear in mind that its behemoth size also means this dinosaur has a massive health pool. So, killing it will take some time, even when you bring sufficient firepower.

Fighting the Titanosaur

Don’t attempt the fight the Titanosaur in ARK: Survival Evolved without proper preparations. Heading into battle with this colossal creature will only result in your swift end. One way to combat this titanic being is to tame a Quetzal and arm it with turrets. Other high-level dinosaurs are also excellent in bringing this behemoth-like beast down. Some excellent examples include Allosaurus, Managarmr, and the Thylacoleo, which has a bleed attack that can be ideal for hit-and-run tactics. Although tamed dinosaurs are your best option in dealing with the Titanosaur, you can also use weaponry for this fight. But avoid using conventional weapons like spears and crossbows. Instead, use Meks and their Tek Rifles to help whittle its health. Additionally, nearby ARK tribes may see your battle with the Titanosaur as a sign of hostility. So, prepare yourself, and your tamed creatures, to fend off these other groups while you’re dealing with the giant dino.

Taming the Titanosaur

Note that the Titanosaur in ARK: Survival Evolved is a temporary tame. Unlike other tamable creatures, ARK survivors can’t feed this gigantic dinosaur, particularly on official servers. But if you want to pursue this enormous undertaking, note that this dino has a unique knockout-taming method. In particular, you must knock it out by hitting its head with shots from Ballista, Catapult, or Rocket Turrets. Headshots with Cannons also work in knocking out this creature. Thankfully, ARK survivors don’t have to feed this large creature any food to tame it. Shooting its head is enough to increase its torpor. Once it’s unconscious, access the dino’s inventory, place a saddle, and the Titanosaur is now yours, albeit temporarily. Once tamed and a saddle is on it, a timer of 16 to 20 hours will start counting down. The Titanosaur will then leave your care when this timer reaches zero.

Titanosaur Utility

Despite being a temporary tame, the Titanosaur in ARK: Survival Evolved can be an excellent ally in PvP scenarios, as said by the game’s former Community Manager, Jennifer Stuber. Use this creature’s gigantic proportions for the following responsibilities:

• Base Demolisher: The Titanosaurus joins the few creatures in ARK to smash metal structures with as few attacks as possible.
• Mobile Base: ARK survivors and their allies can ride on the Titanosaur’s giant body and use it as a mobile crafting station.
• Field Clearer: Although the Titanosaur can’t gather resources, stomping on terrain can remove trees.
