7 Days to Die 2.0 Update: What to Expect & What We Know So Far

Also called the Storm’s Brewing Update, 7 Days to Die 2.0 will redefine the zombie apocalypse survival horror genre with overhauled systems, new features, and more! Survivors should expect unforgiving environments, new threats, and more loot than before. With that, dive deep into what has been announced so far for this major patch.

New Release Date Confirmed

Developers The Fun Pimps originally posted an update regarding the release date of 7 Days to Die 2.0, placing it on April 15, 2025 however, an update to the original post announced that the launch of this major patch would be delayed for "several weeks". Thankfully, a May 29 announcement has broken the silence on a new release date for the 7 Days to Die Update 2.0, which is going to be on June 6, 2025 for the Experimental Branch and June 30, 2025 for the Stable Branch! New Content & Features

Biome Progression with Elemental Survival

In 7 Days to Die Update 2.0, survivors must face more challenges than before, and they’re not only going to be the undead kind. Soon, you'll also face Mother Nature's wrath as you battle brutal elemental hazards like smoke, heat, cold, and radiation. Thankfully, this patch also introduces craftable items that'll temporarily increase resistance against the elements. Players can also conquer biome trials for permanent immunity against the harsh elements. A Dynamic Severe Storm mechanic will also be included in Version 2.0. This system forces players to take shelter. Failure to do so may induce certain consequences. Additionally, each biome has a progressive loot stage cap, encouraging exploration to other locations. Survivors can increase the this limit by visiting more difficult biomes and completing their respective challenges.

A "New" Navezgane

Complementing the new biome progression system is an overhauled map. In particular, biome boundaries and trader POI positions have been reworked, which means survivors must update their maps to know these new locations. However, these new positions improve travel times between them, reducing the chances of encountering hostiles and increasing survivability. Also, about 140 new POIs have been added to Navezgane with the launch of Update 2.0. These locations include 125 Tier 0's, 13 Tier 1's, 6 Tier 2's, and 3 Tier 3's.

More Zombie Threats

Before, survivors had to deal with different types of zombies, including the cumbersome Radiated Zombies. In Update 2.0, you'll come face to face with game-staged Charged Blue and Infernal Orange zombie archetypes, complete with new behaviors. Also, if you think you're safe in tight spaces, think again. Certain zombies can soon crawl through certain areas, even those with 1-meter openings. The new biomes will also include region-specific zombies with unique abilities. For instance, the desert biome has a Plague Spitter and the snow biome has the Frost Claw. Defeating these special zombies require more than just powerful weapons at your disposal. Other new zombies include the following:

• Plague Spitter: A desert biome-exclusive zombie that can vomit harmful insects.
• Charged Blue Zombies: A more difficult class of radiated blue zombies that attack and run faster than their green glowing counterparts.
• Infernal Orange Zombies: A more difficult class of radiated orange zombies that are slower but tankier than their green glowing counterparts.

Clothing and Cosmetics

Who says you can't be fashionable when you're blowing up hordes of undead? With the 7 Days to Die Update 2.0, players won't only be able to wear what they want for protection but also equip clothing for cosmetic purposes. The developers also mentioned that more cosmetic DLCs and Twitch Drops will arrive at 2.0.

Quest Marker System

Say goodbye to roaming around the map aimlessly, searching for the next step in your current quest. Update 2.0 introduces a new quest marker system, wherein players can display custom quest flags per quest.

Spawn Near Friend

Don’t you hate it when you enter a 7 Days to Die server with a friend, only to find out that you’ve spawned in different places? This concern disappears with Update 2.0, as different users in the same server will be able to spawn near each other, promoting the ultimate teamwork!

Additional Audio

7 Days to Die 2.0 also adds extra audio files to the game, such as individual footsteps. These additional sound effects should make the world feel more alive and immersive than before. Speaking of audio, The Fun Pimps have been working with Discord, allowing players to use the popular messaging platform as the default voice chat for 7 Days to Die. Survivors can link their Discord account to the game, enhancing in-game communications significantly.

New Points of Interest (POIs)

According to the developers, they’re aiming for 50 new POIs when Patch 2.0 launches. These new POIs will also have more variety than the previously added locations, along with extra remnants for peak performance. Speaking of performance, this update should also improve the performances of some existing POIs, which will include those sneaky zombies mentioned earlier.

Updates & Improvements

Perk Updates and Rebalance

Update 2.0 reimagines perk progression with the new General Perks tab. This added feature expands customization, providing players with more options on how to build their characters. This new tab boasts expanded perk trees, which include Mastery Perk Sets and multi-tiered upgrades. Players will soon have the option to tailor certain skills without restrictions via relocating general perks. There are also new books tailored for the new Sledgehammer weapon class. Sledgehammer Books

Survivors who are fans of bashing zombie heads into the ground using the Sledgehammer will be happy to know that this weapon type now has a new book series. Entitled the Sledge Saga, players can find a total of seven books, each unlocking unique benefits upon reading them. For instance, reading Volume 1 adds an additional 10% to the Sledgehammer's knockdown chance. Also, reading the entire series allows the user to refill stamina with each power attack kill with this weapon.

Trees and Foliage Update

7 Days to Die 2.0 also brings updated visuals and performances to various florae. Many trees should optimally perform even when using certain tree shaders. Burnt and wasteland trees also have new looks to make them look more realistic than before.

Random Gen Improvements

Wilderness POIs will spawn at more random places than before, invoking exploration and immersion in what would otherwise be standard gameplay. Update 2.0 also brings various enhancements to wilderness road placements.

Will 7 Days to Die Have Crossplay in Update 2.0?

According to the 7 Days to Die developers, they’re still passing the certifications for each platform so consoles can play on dedicated servers. However, the time and date when this much-awaited feature will be available isn’t set in stone at the time of writing. Nonetheless, Update 2.0 comes with crossplay for 7 Days to Die dedicated servers. However, PS5 and Xbox Series versions cannot join dedicated servers with mods at the time of writing.
