How to Play the Palworld TCG

play
&t=2s The official Palworld trading card game is designed for 1v1 competitive battles. In it, you'll have a Main Deck with 50 cards, a Soul Deck with 10 cards, a playmat with various zones, and a life counter. Each player starts with 10 points of life, and the goal of the game is to reduce your opponent's life count to zero. In a single turn of the game, there are five phases:
  • Stand Phase: All rested cards (cards that have been rotated horizontally, such as Soul Cards or Pal Cards) are turned to a standing, vertical position.
  • Draw Phase: You draw a single card from your Main Deck and add it to your hand.
  • Soul Phase: You play two Soul Cards from your Soul Deck into the Soul Area. You can have a maximum of 10 Soul Cards out at once.
  • Main Phase: You can choose to deploy cards to your field based on their Soul cost and the amount of Soul Cards you have available.
  • End Phase: Your turn ends, and your opponent's turn begins.

Playing the Game

Palworld Card Types screenshot When you start the game, you'll draw five cards from your main deck for your opening hand. You can choose to mulligan this hand a single time if you wish. Typically, players start with a Stand Phase, but on each player's first turn of the game, you'll start with the Soul Phase. This is when you place Soul Cards from your Soul Deck into your Soul Area. During your Main Phase, you will deploy Pals to your Base, equip Gear Cards, deploy Structure Cards, and more. What you do is based on a card's Soul Cost, shown at the top left of each card. You need to have enough Soul Cards in your Soul Area to activate each card you hope to use. When you use a Soul Card to summon another card, you must turn those Soul Cards sideways for the remainder of the turn to show that they've been spent. Keep in mind that you can only have a maximum of five Pals in your Base at any time. Any Pal you play can attack immediately. So, the moment you play a Pal into your base, it can attack your opponent's Pals or your opponent directly. If a player takes damage, they will perform a Damage Check. This involves turning over a number of cards from the top of your Main Deck equal to the amount of damage dealt. If any of the Pals you reveal this way have a glowing, Lucky Pal symbol on the top right, then the damage received is nullified. Otherwise, the flipped cards move into your Graveyard. If you want to attack an opponent's Pal, it's important to note that you can only attack opposing Pals that are currently rested, whether they attacked or became rested through another card effect. Additionally, when a Pal attacks a Pal, you will look at the larger number at the card's bottom center, called its Power, which is used only against Pals. The smaller number to the right is called its Strike value, which is your Pal's power against players. These are the basics of playing the official Palworld trading card game. However, Pal Cards, Gear Cards, Event Cards, and Structure Cards can all augment the actions of play. You can alter Soul generation, interrupt opponents, strengthen Pals, manipulate combat, or provide other strategic effects. With plenty more in store for the Palworld TCG, stay tuned as we update with all the latest info!
