As its name implies, the Dinosaur Egg in Stardew Valley hatches into a dinosaur at your farm. Over time, the tamed dinosaur will mature, providing you with a consistent supply of sellable Dinosaur Eggs. But how do you get the original egg?

How to Get a Dinosaur Egg in Stardew Valley

Fortunately, you have multiple ways to obtain the Dinosaur Egg in Stardew Valley. Unfortunately, most, if not all, of these methods, have the presence of RNG. So, the means to get a Dinosaur Egg are:

• Digging an Artifact Spot in The Mountains or Quarry
• Achieve at least Fishing Level 2 and open a caught chest
• Defeat a Pepper Rex in the Skull Cavern at the Desert
• Foraged on Skull Cavern’s Prehistoric Floors
• Find a hidden prize while playing the Crane Game in the Movie Theater

Note that the highest chance to obtain a Dinosaur Egg out of the methods mentioned above is by killing a Pepper Rex. But this creature might be challenging to defeat, especially for beginners. It’s ideal to wait until you upgrade and/or enchant your weapons before trying to beat a Pepper Rex so it doesn’t knock you out.

Hatching a Dinosaur Egg in Stardew Valley

Once you find a Dinosaur Egg, place it in an incubator in a Big or Deluxe Coop. Then, wait about 12 in-game days (approximately 6 in-game days if you have the Coopmaster Profession) for the egg to hatch into a dinosaur. Note: Unlike other Stardew Valley livestock, dinosaurs are born mature after hatching from their eggs. At this point, you can either keep or sell the dinosaur. Selecting the latter can yield 315 to 1,300 gold pieces, depending on the creature’s friendship level. Alternatively, keeping the dinosaur as livestock allows you to produce additional Dinosaur Eggs. Note that one dinosaur will create 1x Dinosaur Egg every 7 days. This time, you can sell the Dinosaur Eggs for 350 to 700 gold pieces (the price depends on the item’s quality). Note: As of patch 1.2.26, the developer fixed a bug wherein dinosaurs with high happiness didn’t produce dinosaur eggs.
