Is Minecraft Cross Platform?
Publié le par
It is no secret that Minecraft is better with friends, but sometimes, invisible barriers between editions can get in the way. So, today, we dive into exactly which versions are able to play together and answer, “Is Minecraft Cross Platform?”
All versions of Minecraft Bedrock Edition support cross platform play. On PC, this would be the version specifically listed as Bedrock Edition rather than Java Edition. For consoles and mobile, Bedrock Edition will likely just be listed as “Minecraft,” but purchasers can rest easy knowing this is the correct version for cross platform play.
It is important to note that consoles may require a membership purchase to access online features, including for Minecraft.
By default, Minecraft Java Edition players can not play with those on Minecraft Bedrock Edition, which includes all mobile and console players. However, through the use of third-party plugins, such as GeyserMC, Java Edition servers can be made cross platform for Bedrock Edition players to join.
We offer a full step-by-step guide on the setup of GeyserMC in our knowledge base here. Clients of BisectHosting can also seek additional assistance at any time through our various support options.
Minecraft Education Edition is a completely separate version of Minecraft that can not interact with Bedrock or Java Edition in any way. Teachers and students using Education Edition will find that cross platform play is, however, available for Windows, MacOS, ChromeOS, and mobile students under the same organization and account.
Due to the unique circumstances surrounding this version, we recommend reviewing their official article on the matter, found here.
Legacy Console Editions pre-dating Minecraft Bedrock Edition, such as Minecraft XBOX 360 Edition and PS3 Edition, do not offer cross platform play. These legacy versions of the game have been discontinued and will not see any further updates.
