Another year, another fully-loaded plan for content coming to Rust. Facepunch Studios has released a detailed Rust roadmap for 2026 to highlight new features, mechanics, weapons, and more. If you'd like to know more about what the developers are cooking, take a look below as we break it all down.

Rust Roadmap 2026

Rust Roadmap 2026 Unfortunately, Facepunch Studios doesn't have exact release dates for any of these new game additions beyond the quarters they're expected in, though this is common with roadmaps that look so far ahead. What we do know is that chunks of this previewed content will be dropping throughout each quarter of the year. Additionally, the development team has stated very clearly that the content shown in the roadmap is subject to change. That means any planned content could be moved from one quarter's release to another, slightly modified, or outright canceled. So while nothing's guaranteed, there are some exciting developments in store for Rust in 2026!

Rust 2026 Q1

Rust Flying Cloud Boatr Base Back in February, the enormous Naval update arrived, bringing the ability to craft entire functional ships. Now able to roam the sea, players also needed somewhere to sail to, and the Naval update provided. Tropical islands, ghost ships, and even some naval missions made the ocean's call even more fulfilling. Naturally, the modular shipbuilding was the highlight. Later in March, the Ship Shape update brought some tweaks and fixes to smooth things over. Community feedback plays a big part in Rust updates. As a result of players voicing their opinions, the new Deep Sea exploration area got some adjustments to make it a bit easier to explore. Additionally, boat-building stations were added to Deep Sea islands so that any marooned player could build a dinghy and get themselves back to the mainland.

Rust 2026 Q2

Rust April 2026 Wipe While not as showy as the Naval update, in April, we got a host of bug fixes, quality-of-life improvements, and a healthy handful of new features. The two biggest features were the Armored Ladder Hatches and Water Wheels. Each one of these has shaken up how players can build their bases. With an Armored Ladder Hatch, for example, one can make their base even harder for attackers to enter. They're expensive to craft, of course, but well worth the time and resources if you have them. Meanwhile, the Water Wheel provides a cheap and powerful way to power your bases and buildings. As one might expect, there are some conditions to keep in mind. A Water Wheel has to be built on the water and laid out so that it flows with the current of a river. That means you might not get to be as particular about where you build your base of operations. Now, in May, we also have the Upgrade Hard, Raid Harder update. It promises the arrival of Mortars, a Vending Machine UI overhaul, and much more. As with every update so far in 2026, loads of bug fixes and optimization tweaks will arrive as well.

Rust 2026 Q3

Rust Cosmetics screenshot At the moment, it seems the Quarter 3 updates will include progression changes, new customization, and the significant implementation of a Battle Pass system. It's unclear at this time just what will be included in the Battle Pass, how players can level it up, or how much it will cost. If you take a look at the Rust community forums, the idea of a battle pass hasn't gone over too well. While there are still plenty of players who think it could be a welcome addition, a fair number have concerns. How much will this battle pass cost? How much grinding gameplay will it require to complete? Will the battle pass expire, making its content unobtainable? There's still plenty of details to iron out on the other expected Q3 additions as well, including monument changes, progression changes, and clan system changes.

Rust 2026 Q4

Rust Boar screenshot Finally, in Quarter 4, it's all about animals. New animals will arrive to the game with improved AI, and players can breed them to raise new generations. Quarter 4 will also see the arrival of procedural caves. This could add cave systems to the maps to present new options for ever-changing exploration, or it could be the start of a dungeon-crawling activity. Time will tell how these proposed changes affect day-to-day Rust gameplay. One of the proposed features that fans want to know even more about is player customization. Currently, the only way to express yourself in Rust is via armor and cosmetic skins. With player customization, players are hoping to finally have the option to change their character's physical appearance. Throw in the proposed Grapple Hook, and zipping around quarter 4 with fully customized characters sounds like it could be an awesome way to end the year!
