Rust Base-Building Basics

Note that a base in Rust must have a Tool Cupboard (TC) to bestow building privileges to you and your allies. With the TC placed, start the base building process by crafting a Building Plan using 20x Wood. Next, select it from the hotbar to visualize the foundation. Then, select objects by holding the right mouse button (by default for PC players) and circling to your choice. Place the object using the left mouse button. Remember, keep track of the building’s stability. Otherwise, placing several objects and floors above the foundation may cause the foundation to collapse. Over time, you may want to upgrade your base by using stronger materials. If so, equip a Hammer, face the structure to upgrade, and hold the right mouse button. Doing so shows available upgrade options for that specific structure. Note: The Hammer can also be used to repair structures. With that, every base material in Rust starts at the lowest Twig Tier. The game has four higher material tiers: Wood, Stone, Sheet Metal, and Armored. It’s important to mention that you can’t build Wood-tier structures independently. Instead, you must build Twig-tier structures and then upgrade those into their Wood-tier counterparts. The same goes for higher-tier materials.
