Arguably, Project Zomboid is known for its closeness to reality when looking at its systems. One notable example is each weapon’s condition. Also known as durability, relatively any weapon in Project Zomboid can wear out and break down. So, players must repair weapons before these tools become unusable, and we’re here to show you how in this Project Zomboid guide.

How to Repair Weapons in Project Zomboid

Project Zomboid Repair Weapons Introduced as a new mechanic on November 2013, fixing weapons in Project Zomboid is a reasonably straightforward procedure. Start by hovering your mouse over the weapon to repair. Next, right-click (by default) the item in your inventory and select "Repair" from the context menu. Although it sounds simple, zombie apocalypse survivors in Project Zomboid must still think about specific factors to increase the chances of successful weapon repairs. The elements to consider are as follows:
  • The player’s skill for that particular item, such as Maintenance or Aiming.
  • The existence, or lack thereof, of the Lucky or Unlucky trait.
  • The total number of times the item underwent repairs.
It’s also important to mention that weapon repairs in Project Zomboid aren’t always guaranteed to be successful. Certain factors can also increase or decrease the repair’s success rate, such as the following elements:
  • 30% decrease for each level below the required level.
  • 2% decrease for each time the weapon has been repaired.
  • 5% decrease if the player has the Unlucky trait.
  • 5% increase for each level above the required level.
  • 5% increase if the player has the Lucky trait.
Additionally, melee and ranged weapons in Project Zomboid require different materials for successful repairs. Fixing melee weapons generally requires Adhesive Tape, Duct Tape, Epoxy, or Wood Glue. On the other hand, ranged weapons must have two variants of the firearm to be repaired. For example, a player must have another JS-2000 Shotgun or its sawed-off counterpart to repair another JS-2000 Shotgun. If the repair operation is successful, the repaired weapon will have its durability or condition increased by an additional 50%. However, the other firearm will be consumed and disappear from the inventory.

How to Know if a Weapon in Project Zomboid Needs Repair

Normally, each weapon in Project Zomboid has a gauge that shows its current condition. If the gauge depletes, the weapon is automatically unequipped. Additionally, players must repair weapons with depleted gauges before they can re-equip the items.
