The Hyborian Age isn't for the weak. If you want to survive and make a name for yourself in the unforgiving Exiled Lands of Conan Exiles, you must turn yourself into a force of nature. Luckily, you don't have to do it alone! Yes, you can play alongside your real-world friends, but you can also recruit in-game companions. One popular Conan Exiles companion is known as Freya, and here we'll tell you how to unlock her and the choices you'll need to make to get her the specific perks you want.

How to Unlock Freya as a Companion in Conan Exiles

In Conan Exiles, followers are at your beck and call as you adventure through the world. Plenty of followers will attack targets at your command, making them useful for dealing extra damage or drawing aggro from an enemy. Companions, however, are the beefiest followers available. They have more health, more attack power, and, if you complete their quests just right, additional perks that make them even more useful in combat. For Freya, there are a few steps you must follow to add her to your team. First, head to the eastern portion of grid G9 on your map. Here, you'll find Freya's Hovel. At a bonfire near this location, you'll find the woman herself, ready for discussion. Don't worry — none of the dialogue options throughout Freya's questline affect her becoming your companion. Talking with her here will start the quest itself.

Quest Step 1

After talking with Freya for the first time, you must inspect nearby bodies to find clues. Simply keep an eye on your active quest description, and you'll know when you're done. Once you've found everything, return to and speak with Freya. She'll instruct you to head to Stormwatch. There, you will kill all hostiles and interact with a note on a table inside the main building. Return once more to Freya, and wait eight real-life hours (wow!) to start step 2.

Quest Step 2

Once eight hours have passed, Freya will visit your base. However, you can always find her at her hovel again if she doesn't show up. She'll start to follow you after you've spoken with her, and you need to kill two rabbits. Keep in mind that Freya needs to kill these rabbits, so slow your hand and let her dispose of them once you find them. Next, locate Firemoss, Singeroot, and Atali's Kiss so Freya can pick them up. Finally, you or Freya must kill a boar, wolf, and stag. Speak with Freya once again, and wait another eight hours for the next step of the quest.

Quest Step 3

Again, wait for Freya at your base or head to her hovel once the eight hours are up. Speak with her, and now you need to kill one of each of the following:

• Giant Boar
• Giant Elk
• Bear
• Direwolf

With this done, speak to Freya and, you guessed it, wait another eight hours.

Quest Step 4

This time, after speaking with Freya at your home or hers, you need to head to the Volcanic Forge located inside the Well of Skelos. You'll meet Freya there, and a fight with swarms of enemies will begin. After the fight, speak to Freya and wait for 8 more real-world hours.

Quest Step 5

By now, you get the gist. Wait eight hours, speak with Freya, but now you'll meet her at the entrance to New Asagarth. Here, she instructs you to locate an NPC named Hagarth in the hut left of the chief's. Speak with him, defeat him in combat, talk to Freya, and wait eight more hours.

Quest Step 6

Now, after speaking with Freya, you'll meet her at the entrance of Nordhof. Defeat everyone in the camp, and then you need to defeat Freya and her friend Helga. Don't worry, Freya will be fine even after you best her in battle. Speak with her again, and congratulations! You'll finally have Freya join you as a companion. You can command her in battle, and she'll start at level 5. Her leveling caps at 20, and she'll also give you the following recipes:

• Gjermundbu - A helmet
• Gjermundbu Epic - Epic variant of the same-named helmet
• Hjorthrimul - A sword
• Hjorthrimul Epic - Epic variant of the same-named sword

How to Determine the Perks Freya Will Have

Now, if you want Freya to become the strongest companion that she can be, you'll want to ensure you unlock her perks. In Conan Exiles, companions like Freya acquire their perks during their questline. No matter what happens, Freya will have three perks once you've finished her quest. However, based on the actions you take, she'll have a different combination of perks. There are specific steps to follow, so be sure to review these details closely to create the build for Freya you really want. You can't redo a companion's questline unless you make a new character.

Perk 1: Carnage or Resolute

Perk 1 is decided during quest step 3 when you're hunting large animals. If Freya deals the most damage to the large animals, she'll learn Carnage. This perk allows her attacks to cause enemies to bleed, and attacking a bleeding enemy provides a small heal to the attacking warrior. If she deals the least amount of damage to the large animals, she'll learn Resolute. This gives her +15 Strength and +15 Vitality.

Perk 2: Savage Swings or Unrelenting

Perk 2 is determined during quest step 4 when fighting enemies in the Volcanic Forge. If you and Freya successfully defeat all foes, she'll learn Savage Swings, and her attacks will no longer be blockable by foes. If Freya falls in combat while in the Volcanic Forge, she'll acquire Unrelenting, which enables her to become invulnerable for five seconds when her HP drops to 30%.

Perk 3: Knocked Loose or Bloodbath

Finally, this perk is based on the actions you take during quest step 6, where you must fight Freya herself. If you deliver the final blow against her with concussive damage, she'll learn Knocked Loose. This allows her attacks to bypass 20% of armor while staggering enemies for longer. If you defeat her with normal damage, she'll learn Bloodbath and gain the ability to heal herself by killing enemies in battle.
