Valheim 1.0 Prep Guide: How to Prepare for the Deep North Update
Опубликовано автором
Valheim marks the end of its Early Access journey with the upcoming release of Version 1.0, also known as the Deep North update. For new players, veterans, and returning Vikings, this final biome brings new challenges, crafting opportunities, and more! So, keep reading to learn how to prepare your character and world for this grand adventure.
The official release date for the end of Early Access of Valheim and its entry to Version 1.0 is on September 9, 2026. The Deep North, the update’s title and the name of the game’s final biome, is the centerpiece of Valheim's transition out of Early Access. This release will bring new enemies, weapons, bases, and other content. The launch also brings Valheim to consoles, namely to the PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2, while introducing full crossplay across supported platforms.
Whether you're starting a new world or keeping your old for Valheim 1.0, you can prepare for the update long before launch day.
For instance, if you're simply bringing over your existing character to a new world, make sure that you're wearing your best gear (including your Megingjord belt for carry capacity), and ensure your inventory is full of the most important items for your playstyle, including powerful foods and meads for buffs, as well as nice progression time savers like the Swamp Key, Cultivator for farming, your best tools like pickaxes and axes, a fishing rod, and/or portal materials.
If you're keeping your old world for the update, you can cover much more ground when it comes to getting prepped for the launch of the Deep North. First, consider prioritizing a full equipment upgrade, filling containers with heaping mounds of high-quality food, and stocking up on a comprehensive collection of meads. Also, it’s worth organizing your inventory and removing unnecessary junk. Sort valuables into labeled chests, and ensure your crafting stations have sufficient supplies of the materials you frequently use.
With so much more room to improve your situation on an existing world, don't forget to do the following as well!
Valheim 1.0: Deep North Update Release Date
The official release date for the end of Early Access of Valheim and its entry to Version 1.0 is on September 9, 2026. What to Expect from the Valheim Deep North Update
Developer Iron Gate has intentionally kept much of Deep North’s content behind closed doors until the update’s eventual release. Nonetheless, the community can deduce some features and mechanics that might be included in the new biome. For instance, it’s expected that this new region is a harsh, snow-covered location, featuring deep snow and slippery ice. Players can also expect new resources designed around the frozen wonderland. One revealed resource is Lingonberry, which adventurers should be able to find in the Deep North’s forests. The developer also revealed that players can clear deep snow with the new shovel, an ideal tool for those who want to claim this frosty haven as their next base location. It also means survival in the Deep North doesn’t simply mean wearing your best weapons and armor. As with your adventures in previous lands, surviving in this snowy region requires prudent exploration, food production, and settlement planning.Should You Start a New World for Valheim 1.0?
It’s not a requirement to start a new world with the release of Valheim 1.0. Existing saves will remain intact, and worlds created before the Deep North update will still receive the new content, features, and changes. However, Iron Gate recommends starting over from scratch for the best possible experience, as biome generation works properly in unexplored areas. That means previously explored terrain won’t regenerate to occupy the new content. In other words, it’s possible to explore the snowy regions at the edge of your procedurally-generated world, but you’ll most likely find nothing but a frozen wasteland. The enormous mountains won’t disappear, and you can still continue exploring the map when Version 1.0 launches. However, the new content will only expand beyond the previously generated content, making exploration more tedious than initially intended. Nonetheless, keeping the current world and all the built progression makes sense if the map itself is part of your chosen experience. Perhaps you’ve erected a massive castle overlooking the Meadows that you don’t dare part with. Otherwise, the current world is part of a Valheim multiplayer server that became a long-running home for you and your mates. An existing world can also be particularly attractive for players who deliberately avoided exploring the far north. Doing so should allow the new content to generate normally. Still, you might miss some of the broader benefits of experiencing the update’s planned progression for players from the beginning. Finally, some community members ask, “Will the items from containers be deleted and only those in my inventory be carried over when Valheim 1.0 launches?” The quick answer is no. Valheim 1.0 FAQs explicitly state the following regarding what happens to old saves at the 1.0 launch: Nothing. Your old saves will still be where you last left them, and you can continue to play with them if you like. How to Prepare for Valheim 1.0 Ahead of Time
Whether you're starting a new world or keeping your old for Valheim 1.0, you can prepare for the update long before launch day.

Sort valuables into labeled chests, and ensure your crafting stations have sufficient supplies of the materials you frequently use.
With so much more room to improve your situation on an existing world, don't forget to do the following as well!
Avoid Exploring or Entering Northern Areas
While it might seem intuitive to build your northern base ahead of time in preparation for the launch of the Deep North, with the way world generation works in Valheim, this might actually cost you some serious time and trouble come launch. That's because to generate the Deep North biome in your existing world at launch, it will need to happen in "unexplored" territory as defined by the game. The limit for "unexplored" regions is 500 meters in any direction from where you've traveled. That means that if you try to build a northern outpost early, or explore the cold regions to get a lay of the land, you will push off the spawn of the Deep North significantly further away, being entirely counterproductive. With that in mind, any prep you want to do for Valheim 1.0 for players looking to keep their old world will need to happen away from these regions.Stockpile Food
Food should be one of your highest priorities before launch, whether you're keeping your old world or starting a new one for 1.0. Prepare stacks of your best available health, stamina, and Eitr foods rather than relying on whatever happens to be sitting inside your main base. Also, consider making large quantities of food and keeping additional supplies ready for extended expeditions.Fill Your Mead Chest
Don’t attempt to explore the Deep North with only one or two potions. Instead, prepare a dedicated chest containing your most useful meads, including those that restore health and stamina. Meads that also grant Frost Resistance and other Eitr-related meads appropriate to your chosen build should help increase survivability and reduce the frequency of return trips to your base.Update Your Portal Network
A good portal network scattered across strategic locations on the map is generally better than maintaining a single giant base. So, before the release of Valheim 1.0, connect your major settlements, farming locations, and important facilities to a central portal hub. This setup turns your first northern expedition into an efficient and repeatable operation. It also lets you leave your primary storage and irreplaceable valuables safe in your main headquarters.Prepare for Deaths
As with each newly introduced biome, expect the Deep North to be unforgiving to unprepared adventurers. Even when you’re wearing your best armor and weapons, expect the goddess Hel and her deathly touch to be always lurking behind a tree or a snowy hill, waiting for her next victim. So, bring spare armor, weapons, and consumables if death happens to leave her embrace on you. Consider keeping one chest containing all your spare, inexpensive items that can help you quickly recover the things you lost upon death.Decide Your World Strategy Before the Release of Valheim 1.0
Finally, decide whether you’re continuing your Early Access world or starting fresh before the release of Version 1.0 on September 9. If you’re keeping your old world, aim to finish your preparations before the update. On the other hand, starting from scratch allows you to experience all the new content, features, and changes from the moment you spawn into the Meadows biome. It’s also worth mentioning that if you used console commands to spawn items or build bases, the game might flag your character to prevent it from obtaining achievements. So, if you’re looking to get the new trophies from Version 1.0, it might be ideal to create a new character and start a new run instead of continuing progression with your existing one.Создайте свой собственный
