2025 is off to a great start for Rust, as it celebrates the New Year with several updates. The first on developer Facepunch Studios’ list for Rust is the upcoming Primitive Update, and it promises to change the dynamics of combat, early-game raiding, and more!

Rust Primitive Update Release Date

According to an official post, the Rust Primitive Update will be released on February 6, 2025. However, interested players can try the update now by testing it at the Rust Staging Aux2 branch. Learn how to play in the Rust Staging Branch by checking out our guide here.

New Content & Features

The Rust Primitive Update introduces new content and features that emanate a world where advanced technology doesn’t exist. Players can use siege vehicles and weapons designed to make early-game combat more exciting and action-packed than before. Some of these include the following:

Siege Tower

Do your enemies barricade themselves inside tall structures? If so, use the new Siege Tower to decimate their encampment without the additional hassle of destroying exterior walls. This climbable structure also comes with floors with retractable drawbridges.

Ballista

Decimate enemy infantry from afar with the new Ballista. Take advantage of its accurate and deadly ammunition to deal heavy damage to enemy health, armor, and morale.

Catapult

Another long-range siege weapon is the Catapult, which generally focuses on destroying enemy establishments, structures, and entire bases. Players can use various ammunition with the Catapult, ranging from massive boulders to radioactive barrels.

Battering Ram

Get ready to deliver massive damage against building blocks and other things that stand in your way with the Battering Ram. This customized siege vehicle may not resemble the old Battering Ram, but it works as intended.

Other Features, Fixes, & More

Other features included in the Rust Primitive Update are new melee and range weapons, including a 5-shot mini crossbow. Additionally, players can update their characters’ looks with new skins to help make them look like the knights of old. But instead of metal armor, you’ll have to make do with equipment like a bucket for a helmet. Additionally, the update brings a series of improvements and bug fixes to Rust. For instance, a faulty exception has been fixed wherein a player disconnects when the EffectRecycle component is active. As for the enhancements, these include various upgrades to underground train tunnels, avatar masks, and Jungle biome progress.
