When stepping into the world of RLCraft for the first time, players will quickly find that trees can not be punched, making even the most basic aspects of Minecraft a difficult climb. So, today, we explain step by step how to gather wood in RLCraft to ensure you survive the first night.

Step 1: Flint

In RLCraft, the first step to survival changes from punching trees to punching gravel. This is because each time gravel breaks, there is a 15% chance that it will provide flint instead. Gravel is most commonly located in and around water, and the same gravel blocks can be placed and broken repeatedly until flint drops. Once some flint has been found, find a source of exposed stone and right-click the top with the flint. Doing so will turn the flint into flint shards.

Step 2: Flint Knife

After obtaining flint shards, it is time to make a flint knife to gather plant fiber. To do so, one stick and one flint shard will be required. Gathering sticks simply entails breaking leaves until one drops. With a stick and flint shard in hand, open the inventory screen with “E,” place the flint shard in the top left corner of the crafting box and the stick directly beneath it. Congratulations on crafting your first RLCraft tool!

Step 3: Plant Fiber

Next, head to the nearest grassy biome and cut tall grass with the flint knife. This will provide plant fiber, which can be crafted into plant string. Three plant fibers will be required to proceed. With all three plant fibers gathered, open the inventory screen with “E” once more and place one plant fiber in the top left corner of the crafting box with a second plant fiber directly below and a third directly to the right of the first.

Step 4: Flint Hatchet

Step three is crafting your first hatchet! This will require one stick, plant string, and flint shard. When all three items have been gathered, click “E” to open the inventory screen and place one plant fiber in the top left corner of the crafting box with the stick directly below and the flint shard to the right of the plant string. The newly acquired flint hatchet can be used to chop down trees.

Step 5: Wood & Sticks

Our guide’s final step is obtaining wood and sticks from logs. First, cut down a tree using the flint hatchet. We recommend cutting the bottom-most log as the rest will fall automatically. After gathering logs, place them on the ground and right-click each with the flint axe. Doing so will cut them into planks. Finally, the same thing can then be done with planks to turn them into sticks.
