Fishing is naturally an essential skill for anyone stranded on a Raft in a world almost submerged in water. But you need Bait to catch the rarer fish, and we're here to help! Keep reading to learn how to get fishing bait in Raft and how it affects what you catch.

How to Get Fishing Bait in Raft

Raft Fishing Fishing Bait was added in Raft Version 1.0, and players can get the item by buying it at the trading post. This item has three tiers, and the higher variants will only be available after increasing reputation. Additionally, you must spend 1x Trash Cube to purchase Fishing Bait. Place items into the Recycler until the value of materials in it reaches 150 to generate 1x Trash Cube.

Fishing with Bait

Raft Bait First, you must have a Wooden or Metal Fishing Rod to catch fish using Bait in Raft. Below are the crafting recipes for each Fishing Rod to help you craft the item:
  • Wooden Fishing Rod: 6x Plank and 8x Rope
  • Metal Fishing Rod: 3x Scrap, 1x Bolt, and 8x Rope
Using a specific type of Bait in Raft allows the player to catch various fish, including rare ones. However, specific rare fish can only be caught when using higher-tiered Fishing Bait. Below are the different types of Bait in Raft and the rare fish you can catch with each one:
  • Simple Fishing Bait: Glowshrimp, Netnibbler, and Sharp Charp
  • Advanced Fishing Bait: Foamspitter, Pufferlisk, and Trap Snapper
  • Expert Fishing Bait: Lionfish, Lunarfish, Pentapus, Pink Pike, Rainbow Lobster, and Sharkeater
Note that you can still get common-rarity fish or other items when using any Fishing Bait. These things include the following:
  • Candle Bottle
  • Lucky Cat
  • Old Shoe
  • Scrap Mechanic Duck
  • Raw Catfish
  • Raw Herring
  • Raw Mackerel
  • Raw Pomfret
  • Raw Salmon
  • Raw Tilapia

Increasing Trading Post Reputation

Raft Trading Post Reputation As mentioned earlier, increasing reputation unlocks additional items for sale in trading posts, including higher-tiered Fishing Bait. Each rare fish submitted increases the reputation by a set number of points. In particular, submitted Tier 1 rare fish grant 10 reputation, while Tier 2 fish grant 100 reputation each. Additionally, players must reach 300 reputation to reach Tier 2 at the trading post. Then, reach 3,000 reputation to unlock Tier 3. Note: Reputation is tied to the host of the Raft server and shared with everyone else.
