He hides in the Saloon’s shadows, dreaming of a life of love beyond the anvil. Break through this man’s hard exterior to reveal a softer side with the right gifts. Clint: The Blacksmith

Clint is the master blacksmith of Stardew Valley, but his hammer often speaks more than his words. Players can often find this introvert sitting in the darkest corner of the Stardrop Saloon if he’s not in his workshop. Here, he’s often nursing a cold and his regrets. Nonetheless, Stardew Valley players can befriend this skillful craftsman with the right presents. For Clint’s sake, he often prefers bars and ores more than the typical presents. Give him a Copper Bar, and watch as his face lights up with glee. Underneath his gruff exterior lies a battle that transcends iron, as he’s always challenging himself with his crippling shyness. (MINOR SPOILER ALERT) Clint has a crush on Emily, and he’s waiting for that right moment to talk to her, whenever that time may come. Overall, Clint is a good man. However, he’s trapped by fears and a constant sense of duty. If done correctly, Clint will open up more about his emotional and mental states to the player. Doing so should give him more purpose and a lot less loneliness. A chance to renew his views on the world will come in Update 1.7, as he and Sandy are the new marriageable candidates in Stardew Valley.

Preferred Gifts of Clint in Stardew Valley

As with other Stardew Valley NPCs, it's only possible to give two weekly presents to Clint. The only exception is during his birthday on Winter 26, wherein players can give him an additional gift. If Clint receives a birthday present, the received item would have 8x effect to his friendship level. Additionally, pay attention to his replies, as you'll know if he loves, likes, dislikes, or hates it:

Clint Heart Events

Start befriending Clint, and he might randomly (and awkwardly) send you a gift in the mail. The presents you might receive are a Copper Bar, an Iron Bar, or a Gold Bar. The chances of receiving a gift from Clint increase as his friendship level improves. As of Update 1.6, Clint has three heart events. However, since ConcernedApe announced that this blacksmith will become a marriage candidate in Update 1.7, players should be able to experience more heart events with the release of this major patch. For now, Clint’s spoiler-free heart events in Stardew Valley are as follows:

Three-Heart Event I

Enter The Stardrop Saloon on a Monday between 7 PM and 11 PM. If the requirements are met, a cutscene triggers, presenting the player with four on-screen options. Choosing one of the two options from the top of the window increases his friendship level by 25 points. On the other hand, choosing the third option from the top has no effect on his friendship level. The best option to improve the player’s relationship with Clint is selecting the last choice on the list, as it increases his friendship level by 50 points.

Three-Heart Event II

Apart from the ores he randomly sends, Clint sends you the recipe for Algae Soup in the mail. Receive the letter to complete this heart event.

Six-Heart Event

This heart event won’t trigger if Emily is the player’s spouse in Stardew Valley. Additionally, the first three-heart event should already be complete. If so, enter the town from Cindersap Forest any time between 9 AM and 6:30 PM. Completing these requirements triggers a cutscene in which Clint talks to Emily about his feelings.

Seven-Heart Event

Clint sends you another recipe in the mail. This time, it’s for Bean Hotpot. Again, receive this letter to complete this straightforward heart event.
