Rosewood was once a relatively peaceful town until Day 0 of the Knox Event. While now mostly inhabited by the living dead, this location underwent a dramatic transformation with the release of Build 42. Once considered a sleepy, beginner-friendly area, it has now evolved into a dynamic and dangerous proving ground. In this Project Zomboid Build 42 Guide, you’ll learn what to expect from Rosewood, ensuring your stay is a long and prosperous one.

Project Zomboid (Build 42) Rosewood: An Overview

Project Zomboid Rosewood In Build 41, Knox Country survivors saw Rosewood as the pinnacle of safety. Asking veterans for the best place to spawn in Project Zomboid will usually result in the word “Rosewood.” After all, it had easy access to top-tier loot and excellent base options. However, Build 42 rewrote the map, and the once-quiet streets of Rosewood now have a “Louisville-esque” zombie density. With the release of Version 42.20, the Project Zomboid devs populated Rosewood with hordes that pack its roads, establishments, and the surrounding environs. Now, Rosewood is “no longer a cake walk,” at least on the default settings. This shift means veterans and newcomers alike must approach this location with a fresh perspective and a healthy dose of respect.

How to Get to Rosewood in Project Zomboid (Build 42)

Project Zomboid Rosewood POI Situated in the southeastern part of Knox Country, getting to Rosewood depends on your chosen spawn point in Project Zomboid Build 42. For instance, starting in Muldraugh or Echo Creek requires traveling by automobile, as walking to these fairly small towns from those locations can take days. On the other hand, choosing Rosewood as your starting location often puts you right in the thick of the infestation. You’ll most likely spawn in a secluded house, surrounded by the walking dead, as soon as you step outside.

How to Survive Rosewood in Project Zomboid

Despite its many changes, choosing the ideal base still reigns supreme in the battle for survival while staying in Rosewood. The Fire Department remains a fan favorite among many community members as their first base. This pre-built headquarters offers defenses to prevent wandering zombies from entering. Alternatively, choose the northern gas station. While this establishment offers fewer defensive options than the fire station, it’s an ideal logistics hub thanks to its strategic position and massive fuel supply. For a quieter start, some houses in Rosewood’s suburban areas offer a fairly quiet respite from the town’s busy streets. However, the undead may still wander into the vicinity, quickly snowballing into hordes of seemingly endless zombies. Aside from choosing the right base in Rosewood, here are some helpful tips, tricks, and strategies to help you survive in this not-so-quiet town:
Loot Early and with Intent
Project Zomboid Build 42 has a “pre-looted” world state, which means some locations, including Rosewood, yield fewer resources the longer you wait. It’s as if you and your mates in the Project Zomboid server aren’t the only people looting Knox Country. So, choose the locations of your looting expeditions wisely. Consider starting at the police station for weapons and ammunition. On the other hand, you can secure the Fire Department early if you have allies to help.
Avoid the Wilderness
Before the release of Build 42, forests were often seen as safe havens. Now, some community members report encountering more undead in dense forests. That means that dense jungles, especially those surrounding Rosewood, are now death sentences for the unprepared. If you must travel through the forest, do so with extreme caution. Also, never assume you’re alone, and always check your six or have someone with you who can.
Hunt for Survivor Zombies
Knox Country survivors who once walked with the living often carry valuable loot in their backpacks. In Build 42, these zombies can be seen as loot piñatas, carrying a wide variety of essential skill books and recipes. Sometimes, these NPCs have canned food, extending your exploration time instead of dying from starvation. In Rosewood, these survivor zombies generally hang around the bookstore and grocery store. Nonetheless, it’s possible to see these backpack-wearing undead in other places, like the motel and farmer’s market.
