Introduced in Early Access, the SAM Ore in Satisfactory didn’t seem to have a purpose. The community has been buzzing with rumors about its potential use. Now and with the release of Update 1.0, we now know the use of this mineral, which we’ll talk about in more detail as you continue reading.

Satisfactory SAM Ore: An Overview

SAM, which stands for Strange Alien Metal, is one of the rarest resources in Satisfactory. Before Version 1.0, mining SAM Ore in Satisfactory was typically seen as a waste of time and resources. Now, Pioneers can use this mineral of alien origins as an ingredient to craft endgame items, particularly Converters and Portals.

SAM Ore Locations

Unlike other resources, like Coal and Crude Oil, SAM Ore resource nodes in Satisfactory are fairly rare. Some biomes even only have one node, and mining the gathering spot can yield 15 to 99 ore, depending on its Purity. Mining SAM Ore

Farming SAM Ore in Satisfactory is possible by harvesting the mineral from its resource node. Pioneers can either mine it by hand or with a Miner. Note that the number of SAM Ore produced by a Miner generally depends on the building's version and overclock state. Here’s a quick rundown of Pure SAM Ore mined per minute by different Miners:

• Miner Mk. 1: 120 at 100% overclock, or 300 at 250% overclock
• Miner Mk. 2: 240 at 100% overclock, or 6300 at 250% overclock
• Miner Mk. 3: 480 at 100% overclock, or 780 at 250% overclock

Note that the number of SAM Ore mined from a Normal Purity node is 50% less than its Pure counterpart. On the other hand, mining from an Impure SAM Ore node will only generate 25% of minerals as opposed to gathering from a Pure node.

SAM Ore Usage and Crafting Recipes

The primary use of the SAM Ore in Satisfactory is to craft a Reanimated SAM. Unlock this recipe at the MAM Alien Technology Research – SAM Reanimation branch or Tier 9 – Matter Conversion. Then, use 4x SAM Ore to craft 1x Reanimated SAM at the Constructor or Craft Bench. Next, use the Reanimated SAM to unlock the SAM Fluctuator recipe from the same tech tree as mentioned earlier. This time, use 10x Reanimated SAM, 5x Steel Pipe, and 200x Wire to unlock the SAM Fluctuator crafting recipe. With it unlocked, craft each unit of SAM Fluctuator using 6x Reanimated SAM, 5x Wire, and 3x Steel Pipe at the Manufacturer or Craft Bench. From here, use the collected SAM Fluctuator to craft various endgame items, which are the following:
