If you thought the hordes of undead were the biggest threat to your Roman Empire, think again. In Romestead, bosses are easily the largest enemies you'll have to face as you rebuild from the ruins around you. Unlike the gods, however, these bosses can be slain! We'll tell you exactly how to take them down and the precious loot you'll receive for doing so right here.

Romestead Bosses Guide: Every Boss, Location, & Loot Details

At the moment, there are only a handful of bosses available to challenge in Romestead. The game is currently in Early Access, so future updates will likely introduce new, massive threats. If you're working on the game's main quest, you'll eventually come face-to-face with these titanic tyrants. But you can always prepare for combat by equipping yourself with the proper gear and eating some food for buffs. Naturally, your reward for defeating a boss will give you a healthy helping of valuable loot!

Guardian of Minerva

Romestead Guaridan of Minerva Boss screenshot The massive owl known as the Guardian of Minerva is the first boss you'll fight in Romestead. Luckily, it's also very easy to find. Once you've finished the game's tutorial quests, your map will be marked with a massive owl icon. Head there, and you can take on the Guardian. Keep in mind, however, that you should have some armor, health potions, a food buff or two, and a crossbow before this fight. As the first boss in the game, the Guardian of Minerva isn't the hardest fight there is. However, it can still deal plenty of damage. It will cycle between a close-ranged peck and flying slam attack until you get it down to nearly one-fourth of its remaining health. Then a new storm phase will begin, with the ground swarming with electricity as the beast crashes from the sky. The key throughout the fight is to stay mobile and look for windows of opportunity to get in a melee hit or two. If you did make a crossbow and plenty of arrows, this fight is significantly easier. As a reward for slaying the oversized owl, you'll receive the following:
  • Coal
  • Copper Bar
  • Poisoned Arrows
  • Quadrans
  • Denarius
  • Guardian's Feather
  • Guardian's Talon
  • Guardian's Eye
  • One of the Following Items:
    • Feathered Hood
    • Feathered Armor
    • Feathered Boots

Pyzifax

Romestead Pyzifax Boss screenshot If you're hunting for the satyr boss Pryzifax, you'll need to head to a desert biome. As you explore and reveal more of your map, eventually you should find a large, square compound surrounded by walls with only a few entrances. Head in here and you can find a dungeon at its center. Work your way through the dungeon to eventually reach the massive goatman himself. You'll know you're in the right room if you see a red box in the center of a large arena. Interact with this box to begin the fight! This boss is a bit more mobile than the Guardian of Minerva. He'll leap around the room, summon minions, and throw rocks at you. However, his trickiest move to avoid is when he starts to spin. Here, he gains a bit of speed and can whittle away your health. When you have a window to attack Pryzifax, don't get greedy. Get in some hits and start moving away before he can start his next attack while you're right next to him. Halfway through the fight, Pryzifax will jump up on a ledge and summon a wave of bullet hell-like projectiles. You can dodge and weave through most of these, but the ending sequence is nearly impossible to avoid. The key is to make sure you have enough health to tank at least two of these final blows. When the bullet hell is over, Pryzifax will return to the battlefield. He'll resume the same attacks he did in the first phase, but at a slightly increased speed. When the battle is over, you'll receive the following for your trouble:
  • Cape of Pyzifax Banner
  • Sapphire
  • Tin Bar
  • Grapes
  • Wine
  • Denarius
  • Quadrans
  • One of the Following Items:
    • Assassin's Scroll
    • Fools' Gold
    • Gardner's Gloves
    • Locusta Legatus
    • Physician's Cloak
    • Scroll of Vulcan

Cyclops

Romestead The Eye Boss screenshot If you're following Virgil's Poem questline, you'll eventually meet the massive boss known as The Eye. This gargantuan cyclops is found at the end of the Eye dungeon, located in the Desert biome. You'll be able to find the location fairly easily if you're working on that Virgil's Poem quest. As for the fight itself, the Cyclops has an enormous health pool. You'll need to bring your best gear for dealing damage and staying alive. This is easily the most challenging fight in the game so far. There are multiple phases and an even greater focus on bullet hell mechanics with projectiles flying from the Cyclops at nearly all times. Rocks will fall from the ceiling, the Cyclops will try to crush you with its hands, and, perhaps most irritatingly, it will deploy its eyeball to roll around the map and add to the chaos. One of the best parts of this fight, however, is that the Cyclops can damage itself. During the phases where its hands attempt to squish you, falling rocks can slam into them. This will deal a healthy bit of damage to the monster and make your life much easier. You can't control where these rocks fall, of course. But if you can avoid the flurry of projectiles, it will increase the chances that the boss hurts itself. When you finally overcome this massive baddie, you'll get the following loot as a reward:
  • Granite Tooth
  • Nail of the Cyclops
  • Cyclops Shard
  • Bronze Bar
  • Linen
  • Bonesplint
  • Quadrans
  • Denarius
  • One of the Following Items:
    • Tectonic Helmet
    • Tectonic Armor
    • Tectonic Boots

Great Phoenix of Arabia

Romestead Great Phoenix of Arabia boss Hope you're ready for things to get toasty! If you're trying to hunt down the overgrown turkey known as the Great Phoenix of Arabia, you'll have to head to a volcano biome. These tend to spawn along the southern region of Romestead maps. Head there, and look for a large, flat open area on your map. There might be a few spots like this, so you'll have to keep searching. You'll know you're in the right place when you find one with a large altar in the middle of the arena surrounded by stones. Destroy this rocky pillar by attacking it, and you'll soon be face-to-face with the irate bird of fire itself. Like the Cyclops, the Great Phoenix of Arabia has an enormous health pool. Unlike the Cyclops, this big bird is incredibly mobile. During both of its phases, you'll need to stay as mobile as possible. You'll also want to ensure you have a bow to inflict damage from a distance. Naturally, the second phase is more dangerous than the first, as fires will start to zip across the screen from every angle, and the bird will speed up its attacks. Do your best to avoid all projectiles, be patient with dealing damage, and you should emerge victorious.

Future Bosses

Romestead Talos(?) screenshot As mentioned above, Romestead is still in Early Access, and more bosses could arrive in the future. Thanks to the game's various trailers, eagle-eyed fans have spotted a few massive foes that look like additions to the boss pool. A massive phoenix, some type of blockish golem, and, as pictured above, what some think is a representation of the massive being known as Talos from Greek mythology. Of course, that may not be the case, since Rometopia is more focused on Roman myth. Who knows? We'll have to stay tuned for future game updates.
