How to Make Mud in Minecraft

Crafting mud in Minecraft isn’t as simple as combining water with dirt, but thankfully, it can still be created with a few items and a tiny bit of work. Today, we answer how to make mud in Minecraft alongside where the block can be found.
Mud does not have a traditional crafting recipe. Instead, it is created by filling a glass bottle with water and right-clicking dirt. The recipe for glass bottles is three glass blocks which are then placed in three spaces on a crafting table. One on the leftmost side of the middle row, one on the rightmost side of the middle row, and one in the middle of the bottom row.
Once the bottles have been made, right-click water to fill them before finding some dirt, coarse dirt, or rooted dirt and right-clicking it with the bottle in hand. This will create mud, which can then be harvested with a shovel or left where it is.
As of Minecraft 1.21.4, mud can be used to craft two blocks. The first is muddy mangrove roots crafted by combining a mud block and a mangrove root block, and the second is packed mud blocks crafted by combining a mud block with wheat. Neither recipe requires a crafting table.
Mud can also be turned into clay by placing it somewhere high and attaching a pointed dripstone block to the bottom. This will eventually convert the mud block into a clay block.
Mud blocks are generated naturally in mangrove swamp biomes, trial chamber entrance rooms, and trail ruins. Unfortunately, all three are quite rare, and only mangrove swamp biomes offer mud blocks in great abundance. We recommend making the mud blocks by hand unless a mangrove swamp has already been found.
