Introduced in the Space Age expansion, the Heating Tower in Factorio is a building that burns unwanted biological products and transforms them into fuel. But how do you unlock it, and what are its crafting requirements? We'll discuss those concerns (and more) as you continue reading.
Players can unlock the Heating Tower recipe in Factorio by unlocking the Nuclear Power research tree. Use 800x Automation Science Pack, 800x Logistic Science Pack, and 800x Chemical Science Pack by manual crafting or using an Assembling Machine 1, Assembling Machine 2, or Assembling Machine 3 to produce this establishment.
Note: The Uranium Processing research tree must be learned before unlocking the Nuclear Power research tree. Players should generally reach Gleba before unlocking this tech tree.
With the Nuclear Power research tree unlocked, players can craft the Heating Tower in Factorio, along with the Heat Pipe, Heat Exchanger, and Steam Turbine. Use 20x Concrete, 2x Boiler, and 5x Heat Pipe to craft this building.
As mentioned earlier, the general use of the Heating Tower is to burn biological products into fuel. Although it may seem that other power-generating establishments, such as the Nuclear Power Plant, are better, the Heating Tower becomes an essential fuel and heat source on the freezing planet Aquilo.
With a heating capacity of 5 MJ/C, one Factorio Heating Tower can buffer 2.5GJ of energy across its working temperature range of 500°C to 1000°C. Thanks to efficient fuel generation, this establishment only needs 0.97 GJ of fuel to meet its minimum temperature requirement.
