How to Get the Rod of Discord in Terraria

First, players must get the Rod of Harmony by defeating the canonical last boss in Terraria – the Moon Lord. Then, throw the Rod of Harmony into Shimmer to transform it into the Rod of Discord. Alternatively, players can get the Rod of Discord by defeating Chaos Elementals. Find this Hardmode exclusive enemy in the Cavern layer. In particular, search for Pearlstone, Peralsand, and Pink Ice Blocks, as these spawn Chaos Elementals.

Rod of Discord Uses & Effects

Using the Rod of Discord in Terraria teleports its user to the cursor's position. However, each use inflicts the Chaos State debuff, which removes 1/7 of the player’s maximum health per second for six seconds. In comparison, the Rod of Harmony provides the same effect as the Rod of Discord in Terraria. However, the former doesn’t inflict the Chaos State debuff. Thankfully, some methods exist to remove the debuff, such as being near the Nurse NPC. Note that this debuff and its effect can only be removed and not dodged. So, you can’t use items like the Brain of Confusion, Holy Protection, or Black Belt to try and negate its activation. The Rod of Discord and Harmony is a great tool for various purposes. For instance, players can use either item to capture Truffle Worms before these critters burrow into the ground.
