So, today we explore the entirety of the Hytale development timeline from early beginnings to the latest updates from the devs. Hopefully, 2024 will mark the year this article has “Hytale’s Release” at its end!

What is Hytale?

From the creators of one of Minecraft’s largest servers comes the highly anticipated Hytale! A sandbox RPG set to turn the gaming community upside down. Hytale Development Timeline

2013

• MVP+ purchasers promised “early access testing” of an unknown videogame being developed by the Hypixel Minecraft Server.
  • This promise was reaffirmed in 2018 by Simon.

2014

• Mojang’s EULA goes live, serving as a significant catalyst for the Hypixel team wanting to make their own game.

2015

• April - Hytale begins official development with an initial budget of $750,000 USD.

2016

• August 29^th – The Hytale domain and trademark are filed.
• December 28^th - The first official announcement regarding the development of Hytale goes live, revealing an increased budget of $3,600,000 Million and double the team size.

2018

• December 10^th – Hytale is officially announced!
• December 13^th - The first Hytale trailer goes live, accompanied by four blogs and beta sign-ups.

2019

• January 4^th - The first behind the scenes look goes live, revealing details about Hytale’s world of Orbis alongside its first four zones and their respective biomes and generation.
• January 18^th - The Hytale Model Maker Blog is shared. A separate and free program set to launch alongside Hytale that will allow content creators to add their own assets to the game.
• January 25^th - Fans are shown how servers and multiplayer will function in Hytale.
  • Server owners will be able to customize every aspect of the game down to the weather, and using the previously mentioned model maker, custom assets can be made and added as well.
  • Servers are confirmed to be on Java, with home hosting or paid hosting both being options.
• February 8^th - Hytale’s blocks receive their own post showcasing an unexpected amount of features and abundance of customization.
• February 15^th - Fans receive their first look at Hytale’s character customization system.
• March 1^st - Hytale team shares details on “zone 1” of Orbis.
• March 8^th - The much-anticipated look into Hytale’s building goes live.
• April 4^th - The Hytale team’s first blog regarding mob AI is shared alongside their goals surrounding it.
• April 12^th - Zone three is showcased for the first time.
• May 3^rd - A blog titled “An Update From The Hytale Team” is released, detailing the Hytale team’s experiences thus far, their growing staff, and the rising excitement surrounding the game.
• July 24^th - Part two of the zone three showcase is released.
• November 27^th - The Hytale team reveals new biomes, monsters, farming, and a graphics update.
• November 27^th – Hytale receives an initial release date of 2021.
• November 27^th - The Hytale team shares that they will no longer be releasing multiple blog posts each month. One monthly progress update will be released each month instead.
• December 12^th - The first monthly progress update showcases new objective and content progression

2020

• January 29^th - Players receive their first look at ice effects and farming.
• March 26^th - Two new team members, multiple new items, the scorched ruins biome, and AI updates are revealed.
• April 16^th - Hypixel Studios is acquired by Riot Games.
• April 16^th - Aron “Noxy” Donaghey explains that they felt the acquisition was the most responsible way for them to get the resources they needed to deliver the best possible game.
• April 30^th - A progress update on equipment selection, dual wielding, and roof blocks is shared.
• May 30^th - Further details on character customization is provided.
• June 29^th - Players receive their first look at Hytale’s landscape generation.
• July 30^th - The Hytale team moves into a new office and advertises multiple job openings.
• August 31^st - Players are given a brief look at dynamic plant growth.
• August 31^st - The Hytale team announces a second change to their method of communication. August’s progress update would be the last monthly progress update, and all future news would arrive when they are ready.
• December 10^th - The Hytale Team shares behind the scenes details regarding production and their plans going forward.

2021

• March 8^th - Hytale Wins “Most Anticipated Game” Award at the Ni Game Awards.
• July 1^st - Hytale is delayed to at least 2023.
• July 1^st - Within the same announcement as the delay, expanded character customization, an entirely reworked combat system, and even more AI improvements are showcased.
• November 24^th - Hytale – RiotX Arcane: Epilogue Video premieres.
• November 24^th - The Hytale Team reaffirms their dedication to the project while showcasing parkour and player movements, new lands, and fast-paced combat.

2022

• July 22^nd - An abundance of lore is revealed alongside the three core pillars of Hytale.

2023

• June 27^th - Noxy and John reassure fans of Hytale’s continued progress, thank them for their patience, and share a few updates regarding the team.
• June 27^th - The Hytale Team is confirmed to now be over 110 people in size, with one being the popular community member RighteousPebble.

2024

• June 17^th - The Hytale team officially speaks for the first time in 2024, sharing a behind-the-scenes look at Hytale’s Entity Component System titled Flecs.
• Present - Sadly, this is where Hytale’s story currently ends.
