Hytale has had several updates, but the next one could be the biggest we've had yet! In a new post, Hypixel Studios has given us our first look at Hytale Chapter 1. This new chapter aims to deliver new combat mechanics, dungeons, expanded enemy factions, UI changes, and much more to expand creative tools and progression systems. Whether you're an Adventure Mode player or a custom content creator, Hytale Chapter 1 is looking ready to deliver! We'll highlight the biggest announcements for you right here.

Hytale Chapter 1 Highlights

Hytale Chapter 1 aims to deliver a large amount of new content. However, the developers state that the primary goals of Chapter 1 are to continue expanding on the game's foundations. This means fleshing things out to create a more robust overall experience. More meaningful progression, mechanical and technical upgrades, and deeper gameplay systems for both combat and crafting are what players have been asking for, and the development team hopes to deliver.

Hytale's First Dungeon

One of the biggest reveals is the introduction of the first major dungeon for Hytale. Rather than being a simple combat encounter, the dungeon is designed as a complete adventure featuring environmental hazards, exploration, puzzles, enemy encounters, and a challenging multi-phase boss fight. You and your crew must work together and adapt to changing mechanics if you want to earn the dungeon's unique rewards.

Goblin Breaches & Faction Updates

Goblins are getting a bit of an overhaul. For starters, there will be much more visual variety among the nefarious nasties. Along with their visual differences, there will be multiple types of goblins to combat as well. A new type, the Feastmaster, for example, can call for backup in the middle of a fight or even charge you while damaging the environment. Additionally, the overworld is becoming much more dynamic thanks to Goblin Breaches. These events allow goblin forces to invade different regions of the world. As they do, they'll create temporary encounters that encourage players to defend settlements, fight waves of enemies, and earn valuable loot. Because these invasions can appear throughout the world, you'll need to stay on your toes as you explore. You never know when a gathering of goblins will appear!

Rune Abilities

Combat customization also receives a significant upgrade through the new Rune system. Runes grant players special abilities that can dramatically change how battles play out. Instead of relying solely on weapon choice, players can combine equipment with powerful magical abilities to create unique playstyles. Some of these runes are modifiers that can even affect the properties of other runes. As you mix and match your Runes and the abilities they grant you, this should add another layer of progression for you and your pals to work toward while exploring the world and learning the ins and outs of combat.

Improved Interface and Player Experience

Chapter 1 also plans to introduce a redesigned user interface to make gameplay smoother and easier to navigate. Menus have been reorganized, important information will be presented more clearly, and overall navigation will be streamlined. These quality-of-life improvements ought to help both new players learning the game and experienced adventurers managing increasingly complex inventories and equipment.

More Cosmetic Customization

Customization will continue to expand with additional cosmetic options. Players will have more ways to personalize their characters through new appearance items and visual cosmetics earned through gameplay. While these additions don't impact combat performance, they provide more opportunities to create a unique identity and flaunt your best gear while exploring Orbis.

New Minigames

Everybody loves a good minigame! Chapter 1 will introduce us to new activities designed for quick competitive sessions with friends. These minigames will roll out on a different schedule than many other updates, with more minigames to come in the future. To start, there will be roughly 14 minigames to blast through with pals, and each one lasts between 60 and 120 seconds. In the future, the team plans to add even more minigames and larger PvP experiences.

Built-In Mod Browser

One of the most anticipated features for Hytale fans is the introduction of an integrated Mod Browser. Rather than manually searching for community creations, you will be able to browse, download, and install mods directly within the game. This should make it much easier to discover new content from within Hytale's growing creator community.

Hardcore Mode

If you're looking for an extra challenge, tremble in fear: Hardcore Mode will finally make its debut. This optional difficulty increases the consequences of failure and rewards careful planning. Survival becomes significantly more intense, giving veteran players an entirely new way to experience Adventure Mode. If you die, that's it! Game over for good. If you were playing with friends and met an untimely demise, don't worry. You can still watch them carry out the hardcore adventure from the new spectator mode.

Better Tools for Creators

Hypixel Studios also showcased improvements for creators and content makers. Specifically, with their Machinima tool. Enhanced camera controls, animation tools, and recording features aim to make it easier to create cinematic videos within Hytale. Combined with the game's existing creative systems, these updates should give you and your friends even more room to express yourselves and share your creations with the world.

Improved Transparency Rendering

A less flashy but equally notable technical improvement is upgraded transparency rendering. Visual effects involving water, glass, foliage, and other transparent materials will appear more natural. This should improve the overall visual quality of the world. Although you may not immediately notice the technology behind these changes, the goal is to deliver a cleaner and more polished look and feel.

  • Some blocks, such as barrels and chests, will become carryable.

  • Changes to how a player's model carries momentum and moves.
• New World Tech
  • Changes to how the worlds in Hytale themselves are loaded with chunks.
• Volumetric Clouds
  • Changes to clouds to make them behave more accurately as true 3D objects.
• World Generation
  • Changes to how game worlds are generated to improve procedural caves and more.
• Living Creatures
  • Animal models, textures, and animations are being reworked and improved.
• The New Hytale Asset Editor
  • Reworking the Hytale Asset Editor to make it easier and more efficient to use
• Spatial Music
  • In-world blocks will gain the ability to emit music.

Looking Ahead

With new progression systems, world events, combat mechanics, creative tools, multiplayer features, and technical improvements, Chapter 1 is working to expand Hytale further than any previous update. While some features will arrive with Chapter 1, others are planned for future updates. While no release date has been confirmed for Chapter 1, we do know it is planned to arrive within the next two or three months. Some of the updates listed above will also arrive sporadically during that time period. The game's hardcore mode, for example, should arrive within the next two or three months, but it won't necessarily arrive at the same time as carryable objects. We'll just have to keep our eyes peeled and our gaming setups warm!
