The first Hytale dungeon brings with it gizmos, gadgets, and even the ability to glide, but all of that falls short in the face of rune powered abilities that can be customized! So, today, we explain how to find runestone shards alongside the crafting recipes they make possible.

What are Runestone Shards?

Added in Hytale Update 7, runestone shards are the core ingredient required for crafting ability and support runes on the goblin tinkerer’s workbench. These completed runes allow players to customize their combat style with two abilities that can be even further customized with two modifier runes each. The goblin tinkerer’s workbench and runebinder’s lattice, used for equipping runes, can both be found within the forgotten temple.

How to Find Runestone Shards in Hytale

Runestone shards can be found within The Guttering Hollows, Hytale’s very first dungeon and self renewing area. To gain access to it, players must first interact with the goblin power generator within the forgotten temple. Doing this triggers the possibility that, once every thirty minutes, a goblin breach with a portal to The Guttering Hollows may appear in the world. Alternatively, a special item called “Fragment Orbis: The Guttering Hollows” can be used alongside an Ancient Gateway to create a portal of your own to The Guttering Hollows, but this is more of a late game option. Regardless of the method used to get to The Guttering Hollows, players inside can obtain runestone shards by mining shiny scrap piles or slaying goblin burners, goblin feastmasters, revenant guardians, and void fiends. The sources of this item will likely expand as the game continues to update and progress.
