Once again, the Tokyo Game Show has come and gone. And, once again, we have a smorgasbord of new gaming info! Tokyo Game Show 2026 had the latest updates on game announcements, updates, and more than a few release dates. Tokyo Game Show 2026 Roundup: New Games, Release Dates, Updates, & More

Japan Game Awards

As is tradition, the Japan Game Awards kicked things off for Tokyo Game Show 2026. This year, the grand award was given to the cozy life sim Pokémon Pokopia! This was also the last year that the Game Designers Award will be given out. The final recipient for this award was Word Game. According to Masahiro Sakurai, of Super Smash Bros. & Kirby fame, this award will be discontinued due to his lack of success in finding a new judge to replace him. During the rest of the Japan Game Awards, 12 games were given the prestigious Award for Excellence. This list includes releases like PRAGMATA, Donkey Kong Bananza, Ghost of Yōtei, DEATH STRANDING 2: ON THE BEACH, Resident Evil Requiem, and more. 

Once Human: Isles of Abyss — Release Date Trailer

Isles of Abyss is promising to be the biggest expansion for Once Human yet, and we finally have a release date! In the latest trailer for the maritime DLC, it was announced that October 22, 2026 is when players can finally set sail. This new adventure promises new weapons, enemies, and the ability to go sailing with your friends. It'll be even better on a dedicated server!

Hideo Kojima & PHYSINT — Bill Skarsgård Revealed as Lead Actor

Renowned game developer Hideo Kojima has been busy ever since he left Konami, where he created the Metal Gear Solid series. Since his departure, he's created two Death Stranding titles and signed deals to create games for both Xbox and PlayStation. In a new development, PlayStation has actually pulled out of its publishing deal with Kojima. Now, the title that Sony would have been funding has been picked up by Xbox. This project, known as PHYSINT, promises to be a spiritual successor to the Metal Gear Series with plenty of international espionage. During the Xbox presentation at the Tokyo Game Show, Kojima revealed some of the star-studded cast, including its lead actor, Bill Skarsgård. We don't have any gameplay or visuals for the game yet, but the folks at Xbox seem to be excited. Picking up PHYSINT means that this game and Kojima's other in-development title, OD, are now both being published by Xbox.

Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance — Extended Trailer

Capcom has been an incredibly busy game developer in recent years, and Monster Hunter is one of their biggest properties. Released in February of 2025, Monster Hunter Wilds has had millions of players and a healthy helping of updates. Now, we're closer than ever to the game's first paid expansion: Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance. Like previous entries in the series, this is the huge DLC that will offer a new area, plenty of new monsters, new weapons and armor, and an all-new Boost Bracer mechanic to expand players' offensive options. No release date has been given yet, but a tantalizing extended trailer is available.

Stranger Than Heaven — Gameplay, Behind the Scenes, & More

Speaking of busy developers, SEGA has also been releasing loads of high-quality games in recent years. One of the games they were eager to highlight at Tokyo Game Show 2026 is the upcoming Stranger Than Heaven. This title also has a star-studded cast including famous singer Ado, Snoop Dogg, and, yes, Tupac. Developed by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, the developers behind the Yakuza and Like a Dragon series, Stranger Than Heaven is aiming to deliver plenty of grimy crime stories and streetside brawling. At Tokyo Game Show 2026, attendees got a closer look at gameplay, including some of the game's locations, in a hands-on demo for attendees. The game will be released on January 15, 2027.

Crazy Taxi — "Welcome to Japan" Trailer

In addition to creating new games, SEGA has announced that it would like to revisit some of its older properties and reintroduce them to new players. Enter good old Crazy Taxi. The newest entry will arrive next year, and is titled Crazy Taxi: World Tour. In the "Welcome to Japan" trailer shown off at Tokyo Game Show, we got a taste of not only the game's Japanese destination but also an idea for how the globetrotting, people-toting mayhem will look when the game arrives next year.

Persona 4 Revival — Even More Information

You thought SEGA was done? Think again! In addition to new IPs and new entries on older franchises, the incredibly busy game maker is also continuing to reinvent and remake classic titles. Persona 4 Revival is actually the second attempt at a Persona 4 rework, but this one is modeled after the Persona 5 Royal and Persona 3 Reload releases. We've had plenty of deep dives into Persona 4 Revival since its initial reveal, but SEGA isn't shying away from showing us even more. Tokyo Game Show 2026 showed us a trailer for Naoto Shirogane and how players can build her this time around. This title will release on February 18, 2027.

Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember — Release Date Trailer

We've known that Koei Tecmo's soulslike sequel was coming since June of this year, but now we know its release date too. It will bring a whole new high-difficulty adventure on March 4, 2027. Fans of the original can expect the return of co-op for up to three players, the ability to craft deep and specific builds, and plenty of new ways to die.

Final Fantasy VII: Revelation — Showroom Demo & Additional Info

The grand conclusion to the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy is getting closer to its April 8, 2027 release date. (Does it feel like 2027 is loaded with games yet?) At Tokyo Game Show 2026, some lucky attendees were able to play a demo for the game for the first time. This gave a taste of combat, exploration, and the game's FITS system. This is, essentially, a job system that lets you customize your party members to any role you need them to complete. In some interviews with the developers, we also got some alarming news. If you've had your eye on this title, make sure you have plenty of memory on your preferred platform. When the game releases on Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC, it is expected to take up roughly 200GB!

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 — Campaign Trailer

It's almost autumn, which means it's almost time for another Call of Duty. This year, Infinity Ward is the studio taking the helm, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 (not to be confused with Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare from 2007) is the game. This time around, the game is mostly set in Korea. As usual, its story is focused on elements of global terrorism and counter-terrorism, and you can watch the campaign trailer now. While the campaign trailer was the big reveal at Tokyo Game Show 2026, players can most certainly expect the run-and-gun multiplayer that they know to be a big part of the game's release.

Hope in the City — Mystery Indie Game

Of course, big AAA titles weren't the only thing on display at Tokyo Game Show 2026. Hope in the City is a game coming from indie developer Lofty Sky Games. This small studio is located in Toronto, Canada, but their game managed to score a prime spot in the Xbox Tokyo Game Show presentation. This title follows the story of a 17-year-old Hope Song whose parents have gone missing. Now, she must travel the city, scour for clues, and unravel the mystery of her parents' untimely disappearance. This adventure title will release on both Xbox and Steam on November 10, 2026.

Edge of Memories — Release Date Trailer

Another smaller studio that made a few waves during Tokyo Game Show 2026 is Edge of Memories. This ambitious role-playing title has been in development by the French Midgar studio for a while and is their latest attempt at creating their own brand of JRPG magic. With plenty of unique character and monster animations, a deep combat system, and a story that promises plenty of intrigue and adventure, this game is hoping to deliver a storied quest to players on November 5, 2026.

BloomWalker

Finally, the game formerly known as Project Bloomwalker is now just Bloomwalker. And it is now officially part of the Ni no Kuni universe! This is a cozy adventure title that, much like Ni no Kuni, draws plenty of visual inspiration from the world of Studio Ghibli. We don't have too much information yet on how the game will play or its eventual release date. However, the game's visuals in both screenshots and trailers offer plenty to be excited about!
