What is A Minecraft Movie?

A Minecraft Movie is the official film adaptation of the video game Minecraft. The film follows an original plot set within the universe and features a star-studded cast, including Jack Black and Jason Mamoa, alongside cameos from popular content creators such as Valkyrae. The official synopsis for the film is as follows: “Four misfits are suddenly pulled through a mysterious portal into a bizarre, cubic wonderland that thrives on imagination. To get back home, they’ll have to master this world while embarking on a quest with an unexpected, expert crafter.”

Limited Time Merchandise and In-Game Rewards

Alongside your ticket, theaters across the United States will also be offering limited-time A Minecraft Movie popcorn buckets. Those shown off thus far include a TNT bucket, chicken jockey bucket, and pink sheep bucket. Sadly, what buckets will actually be available depends on the theater being attended. Meanwhile, fans at home can experience the film firsthand until April 7, 2025, on the official A Minecraft Movie event server and earn an exclusive Minecraft movie in-game cape. This server also provides some sneak peeks in the form of minigames where you and others play out events from the film in real-time. The A Minecraft Movie event server is exclusive to Bedrock Edition and can be joined from the main menu.

A Minecraft Movie International Release Dates

A Minecraft Movie held its global premiere in the United Kingdom on March 30, 2025, before beginning its international rollout the very next day. For most countries, including the United States, the A Minecraft Movie release date is April 4, 2025, or earlier. However, some countries, such as Japan, may sadly find that the film does not release until as late as April 25, 2025.
