The zombie apocalypse decimated Rome, burning records to ash and ripping books to shreds. Now, it’s your turn to restore old knowledge through research. But first, you must gather Research Papers, an essential requirement to achieve this goal, and this Romestead guide shows you how!
Romestead players must venture into the late-game Volcano biome for a chance to loot Research Paper from chests and containers. That also means it's ideal to defeat the Cyclops in the Desert biome and unlock additional crafting recipes by progressing through the mainline quest to properly prepare for this region. Thankfully, you only need one piece to complete the quest that unlocks the building that generates additional Research Papers if needed.
Tip: Early- to mid-game players can enter a late-game world or Romestead server to get one unit of Research Paper, eliminating the need to travel to the Volcano biome.
The primary use of the Research Paper in Romestead is to offer it, and 1x Traveler’s Coin, at the Altar to complete the “Significant Pursuit” quest. Given by Mercury, completing this quest unlocks the University, which requires 4x Lumber, 6x Stone, and 8x Brick to build.
Once built, assign an NPC to become a Philosopher in the University to continuously generate Research Papers. Interact with the same villager to use the resource to unlock various construction projects for your town, which are the following:

- Concrete Mixer: Requires 20x Research Paper to unlock, and 8x Lumber and 6x Stone to build.
- Sculptor: Requires 20x Research Paper to unlock, and 8x Lumber and 6x Stone to build.
- Material Storage (Level 3): Requires 30x Research Paper to upgrade the existing structure.
- Concrete Roads: Requires 20x Research Paper to unlock and 1x Concrete to craft.
- Concrete Walls: Requires 20x Research Paper to unlock and 1x Concrete to craft.
