The next Minecraft game drop officially has a name, and it is none other than Minecraft: The Copper Age! So, today, we explore what’s coming in the Minecraft Copper Age update alongside potential release dates.

What’s Coming in the Minecraft Copper Age Update

New Items

Copper can now be used to craft a full set of armor and tools with a quality between stone and iron. They are meant to smooth out the early game experience, so those who already have netherite will find it has little use. However, it will be an exciting part of any new worlds! Copper horse armor, on the other hand, will generate as loot alongside iron horse armor. None of these items can oxidize.

The new uses of copper include more than just armor and tools! Copper bars, chains, chests, torches, and lanterns are all newly available blocks, complete with oxidation. As for copper chests, they may not store anything more than regular ones, but they do act as an essential part of Minecraft’s latest mob (and mob vote runner-up), copper golems!

New Mobs

• Copper Golem
• Mannequin (Technical Entity)

Copper golems are created by placing one copper block with a carved pumpkin on top. Once spawned, they will take any items from copper chests and store them in nearby chests that hold the same item. If left outside, copper golems can also oxidize, turning into a decorative statue block complete with various poses and a redstone signal based on them. The latest snapshot has also introduced mannequin entities, a new technical mob that functions as an uncontrolled player entity, or true NPC. They can be programmed to perform actions and movements, wear armor, gear, and items, and even have skins.

New Features

• Server Terms of Service
• End Flash

Server owners can now write and include a Terms of Service that players must agree to before being able to play on the server. While it is unlikely to be legally binding, it is a long-requested feature that can serve as an easy way to deliver rules and etiquette to players, leaving them with no excuse if broken. Back in-game, a flash of eerie light will now occasionally occur in the end’s skybox. Perhaps this is foreshadowing of future updates coming to the end dimension?

Minecraft 1.21.9 Release Date

There is no confirmed release date for the Minecraft Copper Age update as of writing. However, since it is scheduled as the fall game drop, we can likely expect it within the next month or two’s time. Hopefully, that means before Thanksgiving!
