How Long Does it Take to Beat Terraria?

Terraria Beat Note that the time it takes to beat Terraria depends on a very wide variety of factors, including difficulty settings, game mode, player skill, build choices, experience, pathing, and more. Below we run down the average times it may take for you to finish Terraria according to poll data and our general experiences. For a rushed playthrough from an experienced player, the timeline to beat Terraria looks something like this:
  • Main Story: 25 hours
  • Main and Extra Content: 50 hours
  • Completionist: 110 hours
For a more casual playthrough from a more average player, the timeline to beat Terraria looks something like this:
  • Main Story: 100 hours
  • Main and Extra Content: 200 hours
  • Completionist: 500 hours
Blazing through vanilla Terraria’s main story, which means avoiding optional bosses and other extra content, such as defeating additional bosses like the Pumpking or Dark Mage, can help save you a ton of time if you're simply looking to complete the game. On the other hand, if you want to go the completionist route, do note that it will take a ton of learning or experience to cover every corner of the content in Terraria. That means completing objectives like all 115 achievements (if you’re playing on PC) and defeating all bosses, including the many, many optional bosses.

How Do You Beat Terraria?

Progressing through Terraria’s main story means defeating all of the game's mandatory bosses. Below are the pre-Hardmode and Hardmode bosses you must defeat in order to complete the game.
Pre-Hardmode Bosses
  1. Eye of Cthulhu
  2. Eater of Worlds or Brain of Cthulhu (depends if you have the Corruption or Crimson world)
  3. Skeletron
  4. Wall of Flesh
Hardmode Bosses
  1. Mechanical bosses (The Destroyer, The Twins, and Skeletron Prime)
  2. Plantera (can only be summoned after defeating the Mechanical bosses)
  3. Golem (can only be summoned after defeating Plantera)
  4. Lunatic Cultist (can only be summoned after defeating Golem)
  5. The Lunar Pillars (four in total, and will only appear after defeating the Lunatic Cultist)
  6. Moon Lord (Terraria’s final boss, and will only appear after defeating the last Lunar Pillar)
